A tribal amulet bracelet created from Mali stone, Ethiopian silver metal alloy beads, red coral, bone beads and a painted African elbow trade bead. Seeds and a shell set into tin caps forming rustic charms.
End to end around 8 1/2 inches (21cm), closing with a hand forged copper hook which connects to either of the copper/silver links at the other end.
As an artist, I am fascinated with the meaning we invest in objects and symbols as amulets and talismans. My favourite source book on this subject is by Sheila Paine (she is also an expert on ethnic textiles and embroidery - my other obsession). I particularly love the amuletic jewelry created from everyday objects - these have a raw beauty completely their own and much of my work is inspired by them.
