Green flash labradorite and copper enamel necklace
A shard of iridescent labradorite set into a rustic creamy white copper enamelled concave 'bowl' on thick leather chord.
I managed to drop the box containing my precious stones (there was much swearing and a few tears!) but some of the resulting broken shards and fragments were such a lovely shape that I put them away, waiting for inspiration to strike.
This little piece of labradorite is one of those saved fragments. It has that beautiful flash that labradorite is so well known for, and seems to shine even in the lowest light. It's set into a hand cut shallow copper bowl - the copper fired with single layer of off-white enamel and a dusting of grey at the bottom. Copper wire wraps around the stone to hold it securely in place.
The focal is around 2 inches (5 cm) from top to bottom. The distressed thick black leather chord is salvaged from a vintage belt, closes with a handforged copper hook and is around 17 inches (43 1/2 cm) end to end.
My favourite Labradorite first people's legend is that long ago it trapped the Northern Lights - whilst some of the light was freed by a warrior, some remains trapped in the stone, giving it the unique flashing and depth.
