Ex Nihilo (Latin) 'out of nothing' often appears in conjunction with the concept of creation in philosophical or theological contexts. I think it is a concept which perfectly describes art, which is formed from an idea.
Copper sheet, hand cut and formed into a bowl like shape. Layers of deep red glass enamel (the process is like alchemy, turning the granules into shiny opaque glass with heat). The words 'ex nihilo' stamped into the base of the bowl; wet process white enamel pressed into the indentations and fired again.
The bowl is cradled in oxidized coper wire (soldered at the back), the bale also formed from wire. The red leather chord of the necklace is salvaged from a broken vintage belt, the ends messy wrapped in copper wire.
End to end around 17 1/2 inches (44 1/2 cm), The copper focal is around 2 inches across (5 cm).
